Itelmen Language and Culture

The aim of this site is to make outcomes from the Itelmen Language and Culture Project more easily accessible. Especially native communities in Kamchatka are invited to download and print out the following electronic editions of earlier publications of Itelmen Language and Culture for non-commercial educational uses.

	Itelmen Language and Culture  part 1: Textbook, revised edition (Itelmen / Russian) PDF part 2: Additions and translations (Itelmen / Russian / English) PDF Sample page with audio files (in preparation) part 3: Itelmen texts and songs PDF The revised electronic edition goes back to the 1996 textbook. Later discussions, as during the international conference "Bicultural education in the North" in Halle 1997, and the valuable feedback from the native community itself encouraged us to produce a new extended edition that is structured in two parts: Part 1, the new textbook, now focuses on the southern dialect whereas the earlier edition included additional dialect variants and a Kamchadal vocabulary as well.  Part 2 pays attention to local linguistic variants and Kamchadal and includes additional themes, scientific species designations and full translations of all words and sentences in Russian or English.
