Koryak Language and Culture
DVD series. Videos by Erich Kasten.
Volumes of this archive are available at local libraries in Kamchatka.
Beyond cultural practices and other activities (KPN
/ KLC 5.2 / 6, see below) this database focuses on texts in Koryak. The so
far collected data refer mostly to the linguistic variety that is spoken by
the Nymylans (coastal Koryaks ) in and near Lesnaya. More text collections
refer to Chauwchuvens (reindeer herder Koryaks) of the Tigilski and Olyutorski
rayons and to Koryak groups living at the east coast of Kamchatka (Karaginski
rayon). The data amount (at the moment) to about 76 hrs. The texts are expected
to be fully edited by 2008.
The given database shall serve, first of all, the purpose to preserve
and to stimulate the further enhancement of the native people's cultural
heritage in Kamchatka (see Kasten
2004, Kasten
2005). Thus, the material can be used within the local communities –
among others – as electronic learning tools in combination with its
later print editions.
